IMPROVE-COLPO II

DeNardis et al, International Journal of Women’s Health 2017

Overview:

This publication presents sub-analysis results from the IMPROVE-COLPO study that was designed to assess the detection of women with high-grade cervical lesions when using the DYSIS digital colposcope with dynamic spectral imaging, in routine colposcopy across a wide range of US community-based clinics.

Purpose:

To assess the detection of women with high-grade lesions when the DYSIS map is used for selection of biopsy.

Design:

This study included women of all referral types and measured the number of women with histology-confirmed high-grade lesions separately for standard biopsies and biopsies based on the DYSISmap.

Findings:

Biopsies based on the DYSISmap increased the detection rate of women with CIN2+ and CIN3+ lesions by 44% and 50% respectively. The increase was observed across all age groups and types of referral.

Conclusion:

Using the DYSISmap for biopsy selection following standard assessment, helped detect a significant number of women with high-grade disease that would have otherwise been missed.
