Cholkeri-Singh et al, Journal of the Lower Genital Tract Disease (in press)

This publication presents results from the IMPROVE-COLPO, which was designed to observe changes in practice and outcomes after the adoption of the DYSIS digital colposcope with dynamic spectral imaging, in routine colposcopy across a wide range of US community-based clinics. Retrospective cases that had colposcopy with standard methods were used as controls.

To compare the number of women detected with high-grade cervical disease among those examined with DYSIS and those women examined with conventional colposcopy.

This study included women with a low-grade indication from screening and assessed the percentage of women found with high-grade CIN, the number of biopsied women and the numbers of biopsies.

Significantly more women were found with CIN2+ (31%) and CIN3+ (56%) in the group that had colposcopy with DYSIS compared to the controls. This was achieved with a comparable number of women undergoing biopsies and one extra biopsy taken for every five women.

Using DYSIS with the DYSISmap, biopsies were more efficient and helped detect more women with high-grade disease.
